Doubles Championship 2011

Waterford Badminton Association held its annual Men’s and Ladies Doubles Tournament in Ferrybank last Thursday 13th of January. This was the re scheduled event from before Christmas that was postponed due to the bad weather. The re-scheduling did not see any drop in numbers as over 70 parings entered the men’s and ladies sections from Grade 1 to 7 with each hoping to make the final. Grade 4 & 5 Ladies was played in Dunmore at 7

The play began at 6:30 and didn’t finish to almost 1 am but the level of competition was intense. The tournaments were played to Final stage with the Finals being played along with the Mixed and Singles competitions on the 10th of March in Capoquin sports Center.

As mentioned above the Finals will be played on the 10th of March but the other dates to take note of are the Mixed Championship is on the 9th of February in Capoquin and The Singles Championships on the 22nd of February in Ferrybank. Well done to everyone who took part in the Championships there was some great contests throughout the Grades, once again credit must go to the organizers of the tournament and to Trudy Kennedy for a sterling job once again and to her helpers on the night these events don’t happen without a lot of work.

Other up coming competitions is the Munster Graduate & Senior 2 taking place on the January 23rd in Killarney. The Munster Juniors and Senior 1 competitions will also take place in Killarney on the 6th of February. Entry forms are available to download on the Munster Website (www.munsterbadminton.org)

The Annual Keirsey Cup will take place on Sunday the 30th of January in Kilmacthomas BC, this is a mixed tournament with competitions for every grade. All entrants guaranteed at least 2 games. This is always and excellent day for badminton, prizes and good fun so anyone who is interested find a partner and make your way along.
